Have a Merry Christmas!!
I received the following from Sandee Lemons today. With Great Sadness, Betty Maier passed away early this morning. Betty had her 94th birthday in September. She was a Charter and lifetime member of MSDA and also had been a member of MTDA for a number of years. Please keep her daughters and family in your prayers.
Celebrate life and make a difference by giving blood. Blood is needed for many different kinds of patients. It could be a young child with a rare blood disorder, a family member fighting cancer or a friend involved in a car accident. MTA has several of our own fighting cancer.
On December 4th 2018 from 2:00 PM till 8:00 PM the American Red Cross will be holding a blood drive at the Murfreesboro Athletic Club located a 710 Memorial Blvd in Memory of Luke Nylen.
Luke was a 19 year old young man who was born with a heart defect. During his short life he underwent several surgeries in an effort to correct his defect. His parents knew that he probably wouldn’t survive to adulthood. Luke lived an active and full life in his 19 years although he died on the operating table twice. He was an avid Predator’s fan and enjoyed attending their games with his parents and big sister.
Two years ago, Thanksgiving weekend, as Luke and his family were leaving a Predator game, Luke suffered a seizure and his heart finally gave out.
In honor of his memory his parents decided a blood drive was a wonderful way to thank the American Red Cross for all the blood needed over the years when Luke had to have surgery.
This event is very special to me. Luke was born just six weeks before my youngest granddaughter. I and my family had the privilege of watching Luke grow up and shared many wonderful times with Luke and his family.
Please join us December 4th for the 2nd annual Luke Nylen Memorial Blood Drive. Contact Carolyn or Anders Nylen at 615-521-1325 or my daughter Ronnie Layhew at 615-533-3915 to schedule an appointment or log onto RedCrossBlood.org and enter sponsor code: PintforLuke.
As the Christmas Holiday approaches, what better gift can any of us give than the Gift of Life. I look forward to seeing as many of you there as possible.

Our September Workshop is titled “Sunflower and Butterfly” and will be taught by Betty Hooper. We have plenty of Summer left and I still see butterflies around, so this will be a fun piece to add to your collection. The fee is $13.00, which includes the paint and canvas, which will be prepped with pattern on for your convenience. Please call Betty (615-355-7120) or me (615-516-7120) to reserve your space in the class and also mail your check, made out to MTA, to me as well. We will need a definite count no later than September 1, 2018 to have the canvas ready for everyone who has registered and paid. Thank you, Pat McIntosh
If you missed Festival of Tables today after our meeting, you missed a great time. Tables were just gorgeous, lunch was delicious and the auction was awesome. There were some fabulous painted pieces, baked goods, sewn items and hand-made cards up for auction. Thank you to all who made this event happen, to Larry Hooper for the use of the lodge, to all who decorated tables, to all who donated items for the auction and especially to those that came for this fun event. It was a wonderful day.
Please keep Janet Hamm in your thoughts and prayers as her mother passed away this morning.
